Istana Hotel is a 5 star local Malaysian hotel in the city center of Kuala Lumpur. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city, it is only a 3 minute walk to the nearest monorail station and also 3 minutes to the nearest big shopping mall; Pavilion KL. Though Istana is a 5 star hotel, it is still less luxurious as most of the other 5 star hotels in the vicinity. Good thing that Istana Hotel is possibly the best affordable 5 star hotel in the city, so you certainly get value for your money. A possible turnoff is the tired looking interior of the rooms and the hotel in general. It would be a genuine 5 star hotel again if the hotel would be renovated.
Istana Hotel is located at the corner of Jalan Raja Chulan and Jalan Sultan Ismail. It is very popular among local Malaysian travelers and businessmen, and also among tourists from Arabic countries. The location of the hotel is, besides the great price, the best selling point. Besides it being very near the monorail station and Pavilion KL, it is also very near (less than 5 minutes) from Jalan Bukit Bintang with all its shopping malls, Changkat Bukit Bintang with all its restaurants and bars and Jalan Alor; where you can enjoy a great local dish. In 10 minutes you walk to Suria KLCC and the PETRONAS Towers. It is also only a 10 minute walk to the main entrance of the Menara KL tower.
Walk-in rates at Istana are often very expensive compared to the others ways of making a reservation. Best way is to make reservations beforehand at one of the hotels websites like Agoda.com, Booking.com or Expedia.com. Be sure to compare prices of each website. The hotel offers a very nice breakfast, but no complimentary WIFI (you pay per hour usage).
