Recycling centers in Kuala Lumpur

While recycling is very common in Europe, it is not that popular yet in many other places in the world. It is good to recycle, because it reduces waste piles and besides; things you do not like anymore could still be of value to others right?

For example, within the expat community areas there is the Damansara recycling center:

  • Recycling Center at Damansara Jaya, PJ
  • Open: every Sunday for 2 hours, 10am – 12 pm
  • Location: Jln. SS22/47, SL 47400, Damansara Jaya (behind Sekolah Kebangsaan Damansara Jaya 1)
  • 3° 7′ 21.828″ N, 101° 36′ 59.2524″ E

There is also a recycle center at Ikano Power Center, Mutiara Damansara, Petaling Jaya

Ikano Power Center – now rebranded to IPC – has launched its ‘new’ Recycle Center. I think it is very good that they promote this so clearly visible on their website (mainpage).

They accept the following items: Newspapers, Books & Magazines, Cardboards, Tins/Metal Cans, Aluminium Cans and Plastic Bottles.

    Operating Hours: 10am – 6pm daily
Location: Loading Bay (behind the centre)
    Check out their website here.

Recycling centers in Kuala Lumpur are conveniently located near major population hubs. They typically offer drop-off services for various types of recycling materials, including glass, cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and cans, and even used batteries.

To make the recycling easy, Recycle & Reward collects recyclables in front of your doorstep. With a click away your recyclables are gone without need to move around, dirtying cars or finding a recycling centre nearby. Each pick-up earns you Green Points which you can redeem for nice products.

My Bahasa isn’t that great…you mean that they seem to be out of business? Perhaps they are in over their heads (which would be a good signal)? 🙂

Don’t bother with Recycle & Reward! I have been their member for the past 2.5 years and the service is really terrible. Don’t pick up calls, don’t collect on the set date – totally ignore your request. We were even asked to pay RM50 for the pick ups! Totally not worh it! My suggestion is try else where to avoid the furstration.

Absolutely agree! They’re very disorganised and now, they have the cheek to tell me that they will only collect non-alcoholic glass bottles… WTF!!! They are totally unprofessional!

Recycle and Reward underwent management changes ie they were bought over by another company. i finally managed to redeem my long outstanding vouchers phew! That was in the middle of 2013
They came to my place to collect the recyclable items some time during 3rd quarter. Now I have a batch of recyclables for collection and haven’t been able to contact them – phone disconnected and website is no longer in service.
Me thinks that they have finally closed down

Yea I couldn’t get hold of them either. They’re really unprofessional and service isn’t all that good. I heard that they’ve gone bust, cited financial problems and have closed down the business apparently. I was a member for a year and have not redeemed any points yet, there goes my green points – they were worth about RM100 too! 🙁

I do not think glass is being recycled in Malaysia. We always threw it away in our regular garbage bags. We did recycle paper and plastics..but not glass…perhaps this will change. I assumed current recycling techniques in Malaysia is able to shift glass from the other rubbish?

there are quite a number of recycling collectors around KL & selangor, consider two types of them like 1st type is they visit your place with some token pay with they “buy”, they buy paper, plastic, computer almost 60% of household items, another type will be consider like “donate” for charity, same as first choice but be aware of some charity collector will “charge” RM80+/- just want to give away your usable mattress or dining set, no comment for 2nd choice & depend on your decision, you can google search and will get alot of contact which is nearby your area.

I had irritating experience with CRC (center of recycling). We tried to call them on a Saturday, sent message but nobody bothered to answer our calls, call back or even reply our message. On Monday we tried again, somebody only replied our whatsapp message with confusing English. Tulis Melayu lah if your English is non understandable. We listed out our items to give away with descriptions whether they are still usable or not. Then crc guy wanted pictures pulak. After that with his entah apa English, they told us they only will take good condition items. I already had a strange feeling when I saw the pics on their fb. Too many pics with thumbs up but in reality only God knows.
Maybe mine is an isolated case because you could read flying colors review but please lah, put somebody that has some marketing skills in charge. All the tenants are moving out here which means there would be a lot more furniture to give away. In western country, recycling is a multi billion dollars business. Over here only want to do easy job. Dey, I can just dismantle the furniture and throw them at the recycling centers.

Recycling centers are one of the easiest ways to reduce your trash. They allow you to get rid of all your recyclable materials in a single place, like a facility that takes paper, cans, and plastic, or a place that takes glass, aluminum cans, and cardboard.
