The point of the exercise was not to rank\u00a0them. It was to record what each one actually said.<\/p>\n<p>The result:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"listing\">\n<li>What the offer stated \u2014 Out of 188<\/li>\n<li>A turnover or wagering requirement \u2014 1<\/li>\n<li>A maximum withdrawal \u2014 1<\/li>\n<li>An expiry date \u2014 0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And of the 62 brands, <strong>two<\/strong> had a terms page a reader could open before signing up.\u00a0Read that again, because the shape of it matters more than any single figure. These are not offers\u00a0that bury their conditions in paragraph nine. A promotional balance can grow and still be capped on the\u00a0way out.\u00a0<strong>Expiry<\/strong> is the clock \u2014 both on claiming and on meeting whatever conditions apply.\u00a0An offer missing all three is not necessarily a bad offer. It is an offer you cannot price.<\/p>\n<h2>The banner problem<\/h2>\n<p>The same survey counted 43 section-level banners: strips running across the top of a promotions\u00a0page making a claim about the section rather than about any particular promotion. They are easy to\u00a0read as terms. They are not terms. If a condition is not attached to the specific offer you are\u00a0claiming, you have read a page heading, not a rule.<\/p>\n<h2>A practical habit for anyone claiming anything<\/h2>\n<p>This applies well beyond any one category. Before you accept promotional credit of any sort:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"listing\">\n<li>Find the turnover figure. If it is not printed, assume there is one and ask.<\/li>\n<li>Find the withdrawal ceiling.<\/li>\n<li>Find the expiry date, for both the claim and the conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Ask support in writing. A screenshot of a chat beats a half-remembered banner.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the terms page, if one exists.
