Capitol Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Capitol Hotel is one of our favorite hotels in Kuala Lumpur. This is mainly because of the good price in relation to the great (in my opinion the best) location within the city center. It is located in Bukit Bintang, right next to the popular IT mall Plaza Low Yat and popular local mall Sungei Wang. Within a 5 minutes’ walk you can either head off to Monorail station Bukit Bintang, or to Monorail Station IMBI. Right in front of Monorail station IMBI is the huge shopping mall Berjaya Times Square.

Rooms at Capitol are usually fine for a basic hotel in Kuala Lumpur city center. The corner rooms are great, for then you will have splendid views over the city of Kuala Lumpur. Staff is usually very helpful and is always eager to help you out with whatever problem or question you might have. Breakfast is good at the hotel, but do not expect a five star breakfast in a three star hotel. If you do not like the breakfast, you could always head outside to the Starbucks or Coffee Bean right in front of the hotel, where you can enjoy a nice sandwich or visit one of the local places in the area as the popular Jalan Alor is only a 3 minute walk from the hotel.

Prices of a standard room are usually around RM200 a night. Sometimes you can enjoy special internet rates when booked up front (for example at Agoda.com or Booking.com). Corner room rates are usually better affordable if you make your reservations beforehand via the internet, upgrading the room at the main desk is often more expensive.

There is no swimming pool at the Capitol Hotel, but guests can make use of the swimming pool at the affiliated Federal Hotel (3 minutes walk from Capitol). We really do not ever see the point in going to another hotel to have a swim, but some (like those who travel with children) would probably like it. People that do find a swimming pool an absolute are perhaps better off to one of the more luxurious hotels like Traders, Renaissance or Grand Millennium.

If your room is at the right side of the hotel, you have great views over the city. If your room is on the other side, you can look directly into Plaza Low Yat. An often heard complaint is the outside noise. When you decide to stay at a hotel in the Bukit Bintang area, you should be aware of the noise on the streets. KL is a city that (almost) never sleeps; there are often open air concerts or other festivities within this area. There is also the occasional traffic noise, and of course the police sirens every now and then. If you want to be sure that the noise will not keep you awake at nights, book a room at a higher floor. Most hotel websites offer a higher room, where you will hear less noise.

Capitol was great. Location is its main selling point. We couldn’t have stayed at a better location, right next to multiple shopping centres, including the very popular lifestyle mall Plaza Low Yat. It is only a 3 minute walk to Jalan Alor, with all its hawkers, and a 5 minute walk to the bars and restaurants of Changkat Bukit Bintang. Main shopping centres like Pavilion KL and Fahrenheit88 are a mere 10 minute walk from the hotel.

Breakfast was good. Rooms were ok. We had a good deal by making reservations beforehand, to us this hotel had one of the best price to quality ratio :).
