Located on top of the EQ Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Sky51 offers a refined mix of good food and vibrant nightlife. Situated on the 51st floor, it offers a panoramic view of the city skyline, including a direct view of the Petronas Twin Towers and Menara KL Tower. Sky51 is best known as a trendy rooftop bar, but in addition to the popular sky deck, you’ll also find the beautiful BLUE Lounge Bar (indoors) and the great Sabayon restaurant.
Blue’s cocktail menu features original creations with Malaysian flavors, crafted by professional mixologists. The cocktails are made with local fruits, ingredients, and herbs and are beautifully presented. The drinks are served with various bar snacks, ranging from oysters to calamari, which are a delicious complement to the cocktails.
For the optimal experience, visit Sky51 in the early evening to witness the enchanting Kuala Lumpur sunset. The combination of cocktails, fine music, delicious snacks, and the breathtaking view make Sky51 a must-visit destination.
They have a menu of signature cocktails, unique drinks that you can only get here. They also offer a menu with the usual cocktails. We thought the prices, around RM60 per cocktail, were reasonable.
We tried the Jungle Bird (RM58), which was very tasty. The Smoked Negroni was also great, especially with its presentation — it was placed in front of us under a bell jar with smoke. We then chose two more cocktails from the special Go Lokal Signature menu: the Flowerescent and A Land Of Rice. Both were RM78 and really delicious. The appetizers were okay, but nothing special compared to some of the other appetizers we saw being served later. We had the BBQ Devil Chicken Popcorn and Parmesan Fries. Both were fine, and at RM38, not absurdly expensive, but next time we’ll try something else.
Opening hours
Sky51 is open daily from 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The dress code is smart casual, and only persons aged 21 and over are admitted. There is a minimum spend of RM100+ per person, and reservations are limited to two hours. It’s advisable to reserve in advance, as the rooftop bar is often fully booked. Reserved tables are held for only 15 minutes before they’re released, so make sure you arrive on time.
How to get there
Sky51 is located inside the luxurious EQ Hotel along Jalan Sultan Ismail in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The location is easily accessible by public transportation, with the nearby Raja Chulan monorail station less than a minute’s walk from the hotel.
You can also easily take a Grab to the hotel. If you’re staying in Bukit Bintang, you can also easily walk there.
Access to the rooftop bar is via Lower Ground 1, which you can reach by first turning left in the lobby and taking the escalator down.
Tips
- Because you need to make a reservation in advance, keep in mind that the weather may not always be favorable. In case of bad weather, the outdoor lounge won’t be open, but you can still sit in the indoor BLUE Lounge Bar. You can also go outside to take pictures once it clears up again.
- Smart casual means no flip-flops, shorts, singlets, caps, or sandals. Sports shoes that look decent are fine.
- We had a reservation for 8:00 p.m., but next time, we’ll go much earlier (and hope for clear weather). By 8:00 p.m., it’s already dark, and the view is actually best at the transition between day and evening. So, next time, we’ll be there at 6:30 p.m..
- Sky51 is a popular rooftop bar and often fully booked in advance. This is especially true on weekends, but it can also get quite busy on weekdays.
- Sabayon is a fine dining restaurant where you can choose from several 5, 6, or 8-course menus, with the option of a nice wine pairing. If you have something to celebrate, this is highly recommended, but be sure to book well in advance. However, we went there for the cocktails in the BLUE Lounge Bar.
